Architecture & Design Standards

Design standards allow detached garages, front porches that are close to the pedestrian sidewalks to engage neighbors, rear and side yard building setbacks that enable family friendly back yards, and carriage garage doors on every home to ensure design continuity and quality in Canterbury.

Garages will be set back from the corner of every home and permitted over-garage apartments on some lots, creating in-law or home offices on one lot. These approved designs allow architects and designers to create more interesting and diverse elevations and site lines.

The diversity of architectural influences includes Tuscan Villas, French Country, Spanish Haciendas, Dutch/English Tudors, Swiss Chalets, English Brownstones, Italianate, German Cottages and Greek Revival as well as distinctively American designs such as Charleston, Colonial and Craftsman.

A careful design review process for the community will ensure harmonious streetscapes throughout. Homes, community buildings and amenities alike adorned by stone and handmade iron accents will exhibit material mixtures of rich limestone, natural fieldstone, and brick, all offset by cobblestone type road accents and roundabouts in the drives, complete with landscaped gardens and water feature interspersed throughout a timeless community: one that grows more enchanting with age. Canterbury represents extraordinary living.
